This Week at the Farm: Ready for Planting!

Can you believe it’s spring, and the farmstand is opening in just 4 weeks? It’s really feeling like winter is finally coming to an end here – we’re even starting to see grass in a few places around the farm.

Next week, we’ll be planting our spring greens (think: baby bok choy) and early season tomatoes. The greenhouse and hoop houses are all prepped and ready for planting to start on Monday. In the other greenhouses, our 5-person greenhouse crew has been busy potting up all the perennials, hanging baskets, transplanting, and seeding. Although the work can be repetitive, it’s rewarding to see the day to day progress.

SEEKING EDUCATORS

Looking a bit further ahead: we’re hiring a couple educators for our summer camp – which is now 90% full – and other education programs. The Summer Camp Educator position is perfect for teachers interested in filling time between the school years or recent graduates with related experience. The Support Staff position is open to current college students or high school graduates who have experience working with children. We’re also looking for a Lead Educator to help develop, manage, and facilitate our youth and family programs for the 2019 program season, from late April to November.

OUR FLOWER GARDEN IS MOVING

If you’ve ever been to the farm in the late spring and summer, you’ve probably seen or walked through rows upon rows of cut flowers across the road from the farmstand. This year, we’ll be letting those fields rest. We’re excited to be expanding the garden to the other side of the farmstand. We hope you’ll enjoy having more space to wander and pick flowers. You’ll have a beautiful view from the picnic tables, too!

Our Bouquet CSA Share runs for 12 weeks, July to September. As a CSA member, you’ll get to pick a 20 stem bouquet per week, from the wide variety of colorful, organically grown flowers in our cut flower garden.

GARDENING TIPS: DAHLIA TUBERS

Who doesn’t love a giant dahlia? This year, instead of selling large potted dahlias from our greenhouses, we’re offering dahlia tubers instead. By offering tubers, we’re able to share so many more dahlias with you – over 20 different varieties!

Now don’t be intimidated by planting a tuber; it’s easier than growing the plants from seed!
