This Week at the Farm: Fall Hours Begin and Café Closes for the Season

The end of October is a time of transition for us here at the farm. We start saying “see you later” to members of our full season production crew, the outdoor farmers’ market season ends, we have our last Little Farmers class of the year, and the Hello Café closes for the season (after October 31).

The good news is, the farmstand is open for 7 more weekends in November and December! In case you missed it: starting November 1, our hours are Fridays 12–6, Saturdays 10–3, and Sundays 10–3. The farmstand is also open Monday–Wednesday the week of Thanksgiving.

We’ll have winter squash, root vegetables, fresh lettuce mix, spinach, kale, cabbage, and more right up until December 15th. And the farmstand will be well-stocked with fresh baked goods, home-made soups and salads, hot drinks, local meats and cheeses, pottery, and more! Plus, we’ll have weekend cider donuts (first come, first serve!) starting next Saturday.

Pick-your-own pumpkins

The PYO pumpkin patch is open 9–6 daily through October 31, and our certified organic pumpkins are on sale! All pumpkins and gourds are buy one, get one free from now until Halloween.

Sales

Brighten up your house with mums, pansies, ornamental peppers and decorative kale! All of our fall annuals are 50% off through October 31.

Bulbs are 30% off until they’re gone! We recommend planting the last of your perennial bulbs this week—you’ll be thanking yourself in the spring!

If you missed our soil amendments, tools, and pottery sale last weekend, they’re on sale again: 30% off through the end of the month.

Napa cabbage is 15% off through Monday, October 28. Make a coleslaw, throw it in a stir fry, or stock up and make a few batches of kimchi!

Friday Night Dinner CSA

Yesterday was the last day of the monthly Summer Friday Night Dinner CSA, and the menu didn’t disappoint! Cilantro hummus with assorted vegetables to start, spinach salad with sherry dijon dressing and a squash soup (made with buttercup, butternut, delicata, blue hubbard, red kuri, AND pumpkin) for the main course, with caramelized apple bread pudding for dessert.

If you didn’t sign up for the weekly Fall Friday Night Dinner CSA, consider joining us next year! Signups for both summer and fall dinners will open in December—stay tuned.

From Fields to Kitchen to Farmstand

If you’ve been to our farmstand before, you know that we make all sorts of wonderful foods, food products, and baked goodies in our on-site commercial kitchen. New this week are roasted pumpkin seeds and fall soups. And if you want more of our small batch apple cider made from our own pressed organic apples, this is your last chance! The last of this season’s cider will sell out this weekend.

Start Planning for Thanksgiving

The farmstand is open Thanksgiving week on Monday 12–6, Tuesday 12–6, and Wednesday 10–3. We’re finalizing our Thanksgiving Special Order menu (think: homemade cakes and pies, dinner rolls, savory vegetable sides, and salad dressings) and will open signups next week.

In the meantime, stop by the farmstand and reserve a fresh, organic pasture-raised turkey from Back Beyond Farm. All you have to do is add your name to the list, then pick it up and pay here at the farm on Tuesday, November 25 between 12 and 3 p.m.

Lessons in the Kitchen

Learning to cook teaches a lot more than how to make food. In our next Cooking for Middle Schoolers session, students will make gluten-free meals and learn how to cook for other food sensitivities.
