Education in the Field
By Cat Buxton – May 23, 2012
Spring is a great season for farm-based education! Cat has been hosting bus loads of kids from around the Upper Valley for farm tours and educational activities. The younger students have done a flower search, located a bee line to our strawberry patch, tasted salad greens and asparagus, searched for insects -real and fake, planted seeds, and played the color match game. The older middle and high school students measured out an acre, learned about the pesticides used on an acre of chemically grown strawberries vs organically grown berries, helped our crew fold up enormous field blankets, tasted salad greens and asparagus, and played Brown Bag Botany.
