Summer Camp Mentor Educator (2025)

Cedar Circle Farm is hosting the ninth year of our unique farm-based summer program for kids ages 6-11. Eight individual weeks of camp are scheduled from June 23 to August 15, Monday through Friday, with a mandatory staff training session from June 16 to 20. The camp day is from 9 am to 4 pm, and Mentor Educator time on the farm will typically be 8:30 to 4:30. We will have a capacity of 30 campers each week, and Educators will guide a group of about 10 campers during camp activities and farm explorations. Mentor Educators will float between groups and activities to assist Educators throughout the day. The camp program may include adult volunteers and Mentors in Training any week.

About the Position

The Summer Camp Mentor Educator role is for people looking to gain skills in education and build confidence leading groups of children outdoors. Together, our staff create a safe learning and fun environment and make meaningful relationships with our campers. We want to hear from you if you are creative, inclusive, willing to be silly, and passionate about food, gardening, and nature.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Educators in daily facilitating programs designed to encourage campers’ connection to nature, food, and each other by exploring Cedar Circle Farm.
  • Directly supervise our campers and help Educators manage groups and resolve conflicts.
  • Prioritize the safety of campers on a working farm.
  • Collaborate with other staff to create weekly schedules and curricula that are age-appropriate, diverse, and represent our educational goals.
  • Collaborate with the Summer Camp Director and the Summer Camp Head Educator to run the Mentors in Training (MITs) program.
  • Participate in daily debrief meetings to share ideas and improve our program.
  • Aid in preparation and clean up of all aspects of camp programming
  • Complete other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children and interest in education
  • Enthusiasm for experiential, place-based, inclusive education
  • Interest in food, gardening, and nature
  • The physical and mental ability to care for children outdoors in all types of weather
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (we will provide certification if you do not have it)

Compensation

The Summer Camp Mentor Educator position is an hourly position with benefits including sick time accrual, fresh produce, and a discount to our farmstand and cafe. Hourly rate is $14/hr.
