We are looking for a team player, preferably a plant lover, with a passion for teamwork and working outside to help in our greenhouse and field production systems. With your positive attitude and eagerness to work as a team, you’ll support and grow our Annual & Perennial Department as we work towards mission driven production and research.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Annual and Perennial (A&P) seasonal team member is responsible for assisting with all propagation areas, greenhouses, retail nursery, and cut flower gardens. Your primary responsibilities will include seeding, potting, planting, watering, weeding and providing excellent customer service. As a hands-on member of a diversified farm team, the Annual and Perennial team member will also work alongside other department teams to accomplish projects as requested.
There are two positions available and one of these roles will focus on retail sales and customer service in our nursery area, with additional responsibilities as details below.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with your team and implement all production of Annuals, Perennials and Flower Gardens to include sanitizing greenhouses and materials, seeding, potting, watering, fertility management, and monitoring of greenhouse temperatures and systems
- Assist with receiving orders, unpacking, displaying, pricing and placing signage
- Proactively maintain all retail areas including creating and maintaining aesthetically pleasing displays and keeping a tidy environment
- Provide excellent customer service for all Annual and Perennial department visitors and other team members
- Help implement all aspects of the flower gardens including field preparation, planting, weeding, irrigating, harvesting, and pest management and flower harvest and bouquet making
QUALIFICATIONS
- At least one season of experience in greenhouse production, farm crew, cut flower production, or nursery experience. Two seasons are preferred.
- Interest in and knowledge of herbaceous perennials, native and pollinator plants is a plus
- Consistent attention to both detail and efficiency
- Positive, friendly interpersonal skills and clear consistent communication skills
- Ability to take direction, ask for help/clarity, and give/accept constructive feedback
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Flexible, creative, and able to perform well in diverse conditions and under pressure
- Ability to work for long durations in inclement weather – standing, sitting, bending over, lifting and kneeling
COMPENSATION
This is a seasonal position, March/April through September/October, approximately 24 hours per week or more, if desired. The Annual and Perennial Crew is an hourly position with benefits including fresh produce, paid sick time, and a 20% discount to our farm stand. Pay range is $15-17/hour, depending on qualifications.
