Green Smoothies? Looking for a way to use up those plentiful spring greens? Add any kind of greens to a fruit smoothie! It’s an easy way to use your produce and get those vitamins and minerals without cooking. Cat has been loving her daily green smoothies all spring long! Or try a savory version.
- 1 bunch spinach washed
- 1 c strawberries washed, leaves can stay
- 1 banana peeled
- 1 orange peeled
- 1 small piece ginger peeled
- 2 c water
Except for the water, place your ingredients into the blender. Add 1 c of water, and blend. Add more water until it is blending easily and makes the consistency you like. It is best to drink your smoothie as soon as you can, but it is good at any point.
This is the recipe for sweet smoothie #6 from greenforlife.com. Use this recipe as a start, but don’t feel constrained! Think about adding herbs like parsley (great source of Vitamin C) or cilantro (Vitamin A and antioxidants). Garden or wild sorrel will add a lemony flavor. Local apples could be used instead of oranges. Blueberries or raspberries instead of strawberries. Kale or chard instead of spinach. Have fun!
