Field Trips and Homeschool Educator

Cedar Circle Farm and Education Center seeks an enthusiastic educator who is passionate about place-based and inclusive education to support our Education Programming, such as our school field trips and homeschool programs.

We encourage the interdisciplinary study of agriculture and the natural world and engage students of all ages through hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences. We provide opportunities to explore the farm, the food we grow, and our relationships with the natural world. We encourage creating and leading sensory place-based activities tied to the changes happening on the farm while providing a welcoming, fun, and safe space for students.

Education programs on the farm allow students to make authentic observations in a learning environment that supports their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. We build our programs to celebrate individualized learning styles and needs. This position is perfect for anyone looking to grow and gain skills in education and build confidence facilitating groups of children outdoors. We seek someone creative, inclusive, willing to be silly, encouraging, and passionate about food, gardening, and nature.

Position Responsibilities

Support the teaching of our Education Programming, such as our Field Trips for visiting schools and Homeschool Programming.
Lead groups of varied sizes, from early childhood through upper grades
Provide a welcoming, fun, and safe space for students
Present inquiry-based lessons and curriculum and encourage learners to engage with the farm
Assist in set up and clean up of materials

Qualifications

Comfort or experience teaching or working with students of varied ages and abilities
Enthusiasm for experiential, place-based, inclusive education
Flexibility in adapting lesson plans to different learning styles and needs, timing, weather, etc.
Comfort managing groups of various sizes and ages
Interest in agriculture, food systems, and the natural world

Compensation

This is a seasonal position, 5-10 hours weekly (frequently in the mornings), from October to May. The Field Trips and Homeschool Educator is an hourly position with benefits including sick time accrual, retirement contributions, fresh produce, and a 20% discount to our farmstand and café. Pay range is $15-$16 per hour, depending on qualifications.
